The High Point Panthers are the third team in our 2022 men’s college lacrosse schedule preview series and the second team from the SoCon. High Point finished 8-6 overall in 2021 and 5-1 in SoCon play. The Panthers defeated Richmond for their second SoCon Championship before falling to Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Here's their entire 2022 spring schedule:

WHO'S IN?

  • Maryland Terrapins (2/5)

  • Colgate Raiders (2/11)

  • Navy Midshipmen (2/26)

  • Detroit Mercy Titans (3/26)

  • Hampton Pirates (4/15, new SoCon conference member)

WHO'S OUT?

  • Air Force Falcons (13-8 W, moved to ASUN)

CIRCLE THESE DATES

  • 2/13 at Virginia: What a series this has been. High Point has defeated the Cavaliers twice back in 2016 and in 2019. But despite Virginia taking the two most recent meetings, High Point never backed down and made it close games. It will also be interesting to see how High Point comes out after playing at home to Colgate two days prior.

  • 2/26 at Navy: This will be the first time High Point and Navy square off against each other in the regular season. Both teams should be preseason top 20 or top 25 teams entering February. Joe Amplo enters his third season in Annapolis, but should be his first full, non-COVID impacted season. Mids should be a contender in the Patriot League and perhaps for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament.

  • 4/2 at Jacksonville: With Air Force now in the ASUN, the top four teams in the conference without question are pretty much set in stone. High Point and Jacksonville have been in the SoCon Tournament most of the time and could meet twice if their paths cross in the conference tourney. The Panthers won both meetings last season while the Dolphins hope some of their pickups in the transfer portal as well as in their recent recruiting classes help push them to new heights.

  • 4/23 vs. Richmond: In some way, Richmond has gotten the better of High Point for the most part since both became varsity programs. After beating the Spiders in the 2019 regular season, Richmond got their revenge in the SoCon title game. But despite the Spiders winning the regular season meeting last year, it was High Point who won the rematch in the SoCon title game. Expectation is to see these teams in the SoCon title game once again.
